What We Do
Our organization is comprised of students who devote their time to seeking a deeper understanding of mathematics and learning its applications to the real world. In addition to our love for math, we wish share our passion with the people of our school and community. We form connections between math concepts and real life scenarios in order to broaden their understanding of the course and provide individuals who fear or dislike the subject with a new perspective. Our goal is to dismantle the daunting image people correlate with the subject by introducing fun ways to learn complex concepts and altering common teaching methods to make it easier for students to comprehend each topic. Our Mission Stephen F. Austin High School is proud to present the Mu Alpha Theta National Honor Society aimed at inspiring a keen interest in mathematics, developing strong scholarship in the subject, and promoting the enjoyment of mathematics in high school. |

About The Sponsors
Mrs. Teresa Nicholson:
I started teaching in the fall of 1994 in Norman, Oklahoma because I wanted to help students understand math and prepare them for college level mathematics. I moved to Sugar Land in 1996 with my husband and began teaching at Austin High School in the fall of 1996. I play the flute and piccolo in the Houston Symphonic Band. I have five cats that are my furry children and I love to read books, usually of the crime drama genre. I am an avid college football fan and regularly return to Norman to watch the Sooners play football. I have one sister who is an aerospace engineer in the Dallas-Fort Worth area and my parents still live in Norman. I love to travel and prefer to spend time on a beach near crystal clear water. I earned my Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction in the Fall of 2012 and am now the Math Department Chair at Austin High School.
